What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise technique that was developed in the 1920s by the late Joseph H. Pilates. Originally called ‘contrology’, the technique was designed to strengthen the body and focus the mind. Today, contemporary methods of Pilates including STOTT PILATES incorporate current models of exercise science and are continually growing and developing to encompass the latest in research. The exercises are performed on mats or on several pieces of specialized equipment that allow focus to be placed on specific areas of the body, while maintaining a connection to the whole. Workouts are designed by qualified instructors who take into account a variety of factors including the client’s fitness level, injuries or limitations, as well as goals and objectives, in order to create the most effective session possible. Pilates will condition the entire body, improve posture, develop core strength and stability, and increase overall fitness.
